Specialized Turbo Vado SL 5.0

The Specialized Turbo Vado SL 5.0 is an ebike with a difference, and totally unique.

It only weighs 14.9kg and is barely recognisable as an electric bike!

The Vado SL 5.0 is the higher spec brother to the Vado SL 4.0. One of the main differences is the inclusion of a ‘Future Shock’ on the front fork for even greater comfort rather than it being rigid. In addition, it’s a lightweight carbon fork too. Moving up in spec to the 5.0 sees 12-speed XT gearing, a wider ranging cassette, DT Swiss rims, and upgraded brakes.

The word ‘Vado’ means ‘I go’ and has been specifically chosen by Specialized. It describes the freedom that the Vado range of ebikes provide. The Specialized Turbo Vado SL 5.0 is all about cruising past traffic and getting to work both healthier and faster without working up a sweat. It also means riding your bike much more often than you ever thought. Furthermore, it’s about exploring, having new adventures, getting fit, and doing your thing. The Vado SL is 40% lighter than the average ebike. This means that you can realistically carry it up a flight of stairs, lift it onto the train or bus, or secure it onto a bike rack without any trouble at all.

Vado SL delivers the defining combination of weight, power, range, and ride quality, giving you the confidence to ride more often and to places that you never felt possible. With up to 80 miles of range from the internal 320Wh battery and an optional range extender for up to another 40 miles of power, the Vado SL lets you enjoy the ride, without worrying about running out of juice.

A pure & natural ride experience

The Specialized Turbo Vado SL 5.0 features the SL 1.1 drive system. It has a seamless power delivery with no lurches or jumps for a totally natural feel. In addition, it fully decouples resulting in zero drag. It’s cadence range reflects that of a real rider, with no drop in power at 70/80 rpm. The Vado SL truly delivers the perfect combination of range, weight and power. As a result, this means superb handling just like that of a conventional bicycle. It has 3 x modes of assistance including an ‘off’ setting too.

At the heart of the Vado SL is Specialized’s Mission Control App. This extremely flexible tool allows the rider to access key functions of the bike via a smartphone. Infinitely tune your power delivery and automatically manage your battery use with the App. It’s a seamless and intuitive way to unleash your Turbo experience.

How do I measure my height?

With your shoes off, stand upright against a wall, with your shoulders back and legs together. Use a pencil to make a small mark on the wall above your head (make sure you hold the pencil parallel to the floor). Then measure from the floor to your mark, in centimetres or feet and inches.

How do I measure my inside leg length?

With your shoes off, stand upright with your back against a wall. Place a book/ruler between your legs, level with your crotch. Then measure from the floor to the top of the book/ruler, in centimetres or feet and inches (it’s easier if a friend helps).

Q & A

Do all brands of ebike use the same unit of measurement?

No. Most brands show sizing in centimetres, however some use a S/M/L system, and others use inches. The table above includes all of these variations to help you find the right size.

Which size should I go for if I'm in between those listed?

If your measurements suggest that you have a choice of two different sizes, then in the end it’s a personal choice. Here are some rules of thumb to consider: Touring/Trekking ebikes - choose the smaller size. It is possible to make a smaller frame bigger (for example, by raising the saddle or fitting a longer the stem), whereas if the frame itself is too big for you, it’s likely to be less comfortable and won't feel right. eMTBs - choose the larger size. You’ll find an eMTB with a slightly larger frame easier to handle than one that feels cramped. You can always fit a shorter stem if necessary to reduce the reach to the handlebars.

How are ebike frame sizes measured?

An electric bike’s frame size is calculated by measuring the distance from the top of the seat tube (where the seat post inserts), to the centre of the front chainring. Sizing Guide
