ORBEA Rise H30
The Orbea Rise H30 signals a new era of eMTB. Weighing in at around 20kg, the Rise H is a lightweight and highly versatile full suspension mountain bike that packs a real punch.
Orbea are using the superb Shimano EP8 RS motor, providing a gutsy 60Nm of power. This unique eMTB comes with 150/140 mm travel, 29″ wheels, and an aluminium frame with 540Wh in the tank.
Shimano EP8 RS Tuned Motor
At the heart of the Orbea Rise H30 is its Shimano EP8 RS motor. The RS sticker on the motor body identifies that the software has been specifically tuned for the Rise and the maximum torque throttled down from 85 to 60Nm. This gives the bike a particularly sporty and natural-feeling ride. Don’t be fooled into thinking that the compromise on power is huge – it isn’t! Despite lesser torque, the EP8 RS delivers enough power at high cadences that it can easily keep up with the standard Shimano motor. Indeed, it can also keep up with current Bosch motors. Not only does the resulting handling feel more natural and sporty but at the same time, also saves battery power.
ORBEA Rise H30: for BOTH Uphills & Downhills
On forest trails, the Rise easily keeps up with the all-rounders in the Bosch league when riding at high cadences. Likewise, touring with bikes sporting conventional Shimano motors or the Bosch system is no problem. On uphill trails, the handling of the EP8 RS motor convinces with a very natural feel and great modulation. The low weight and slack seat tube angle that positions the rider centrally on the bike all combine to make the Rise a good climber. In addition, its sturdy rear tyre that can be ridden at low air pressures for maximum grip.
When it comes to the downhills, the Orbea Rise H30 simply excels. With its 20.8 kg weight, it might not be a flyweight but relative to its battery capacity, it still has a very low overall weight. This has a huge, positive impact in combination with the balanced weight distribution on the trail. The bike sports a very capable geometry, great suspension and has an agile, playful character. In open corners, the grip from both tyres is exceptional whilst the handling is both intuitive and good-natured. Put simply, it has plenty of riding fun.
High Agility, Immense Fun
Thanks to Rise’s high agility and the sporty, stiff suspension that offers lots of support, playing and jumping around on flow trails are the main showpiece. Also, despite a stiff, taut setup, the bike doesn’t lack traction or reserves. Quite the opposite in fact. The Orbea Rise H30 encourages you to blast down the trail at high speeds.
The Orbea Rise H30 blurs the lines between all-round eMTBs and “light” eMTBs. With its sophisticated modular battery concept and custom in-house motor software for the Shimano EP8 motor, it combines enormous range with uphill characteristics that are typical of all-round eMTBs. Nonetheless, downhill it is clearly a lightweight eMTB thanks to its agile handling and awesome ride.
