Cycle Show 2014: Electric Bikes Galore!
Cycle Show 2014 at the NEC was bursting with electric bikes!
Trade day kicked off on Thursday, and the car parks were already rammed by 9am. Not that this deterred a number of cyclists that navigated their way there on two wheels, some of which were electric bikes I was pleased to see. The show runs over four days and concludes on the Sunday.
Over the years, there has been an increasing emphasis on electric bikes with show space expanding year on year. In recent times, a ‘test track’ has been introduced for all to gain a real experience of what an electric bike is all about. This is an ideal way to get up close to the reality of power assisted cycling and to explore the very best electric bikes available on the market today. Cycle Show 2014 delivered just that!
Not surprisingly, Bosch featured heavily amongst many brands. This tried and tested crank drive has gone from strength to strength over the last 18 months and is proving to be a worthy competitor. There was however a new breed of motor making an appearance for the first time at the Cycle Show. Both the Shimano STEPS (Shimano Total Electric Power System) and Yamaha crank drives were there, and mighty fine they looked too!
Overall, an unmissable experience, and one that is highly recommended.
